Light is essential when creating cyanotypes and there is no better time to create them than summer. The fields are full of the flowers I love and the air is scented with wild rose and sage. There are chemicals, too and clear water. All together, under a brilliant blue sky, an image is created using wild things, found things, bits of string, and spices. Like baking a cake, you never know exactly how it will turn out until the whole process is complete so one must be prepared to be very, very pleased or very, very humbled. There’s rarely an in-between for me but even the worst of the worst inspires the next which I always hope to be better.
